What is SAL and how will I benefit from joining?

Established in 2001 as a limited company, The Scottish Association of Landlords has quickly grown to be the largest and only dedicated national landlords organisation that represents landlords throughout Scotland. Through our 12 local branches our organisation has links with every Scottish local authority and actively campaigns at local and national level on behalf of member landlords.

Our training programme is second to none and offers landlords the ability to meet locally and learn from each other's experience as well as gaining knowledge from some of the countries most experienced landlord trainers.

Membership is open to all residential private landlords, letting agents and housing advisers/consultants. For details of benefits of membership click on our membership page for more information. Members agree to abide by the SAL code of practice.

Training & Information

Our unique training programme delivered through sister organisation Landlord Accreditation Scotland offers landlords the opportunity to come together and learn three modules based on the Core Standards for landlords. This equips members to issue tenancy agreements and notices, deal with tenancy deposits, anti-social tenants and how to market your property to let. For those interested in more formal learning you can study for the Certificate in Housing - a specially devised course ran between SAL and the Chartered Institute in Housing in Scotland.

Our members' area offers useful tools to download and adapt to your own needs and importantly our FREE members' advice line provides you with unlimited direct access to Scotland's only dedicated Scottish Housing Law Advice Line for private landlords.

 Policy & Campaigning

Our Policy & Parliamentary Affairs Department has, since our incorporation, been campaigning at the heart of government in the Scottish Parliament and has had numerous campaigning successes. Since the Scottish Elections in May 2007, SAL has successfully lobbied for a Cross Party Group on Housing which SAL acts as the secretariat and represents the private rented sector in Scotland. This group operates at the heart of the parliament and offers MSPs the opportunity to question SAL and other housing specialists on our policy position on private renting in Scotland as well as a variety of other housing related topics.

Publications & Newsletters

SAL produces the most informative and up to date information and advice for Scottish landlords by distributing Scotland's most widely read landlord magazine 'Landlord Focus' plus regular information updates being emailed to members.
