SAL regularly contributes on policy to other organisations as well as local, Scottish and UK government departments. We welcome and invite members to input into our policy positions on all aspects of private letting and related general housing matters.

Our Policy & Parliamentary Affairs department has been campaigning at the heart of the Scottish Parliament since our incorporation and has had numerous campaigning successes.

News & policy

News and policy updates appear here and are also emailed directly to members as they are announced. Members please make sure you inform us if your email address changes so that you don’t miss out on any bulletins (you can update your information under "Your Membership Details" once logged in). Occasionally over-zealous spam filters can send our emails into your junk or spam mail folders. To avoid this, please add the email address info@scottishlandlords.com to your contacts.

Most aspects of housing are devolved matters (i.e. the Holyrood government has responsibility for them) so SAL has an important role representing both landlords and agents (via our new Council of Letting Agents) on the many committees and forums that feed into policy. More information about this work please see the About section.

SAL also works at Westminster when required including representations on benefits, taxation and other issues reserved by the UK Government.

The Policy & Parliamentary Affairs team also has responsibility for liaison with Scotland's thirty two Local Authorities which are responsible for enforcement of much of Scotland's legislation affecting the private rented sector.
